Along with her sensational, decades-long show business career, Marie Osmond has ventured into several successful businesses. One is Marie Osmond Dolls, nearly twenty years in operation. Osmond has been a collector since childhood, a passion she shared with her mother. Together, they collected dolls from many countries. Marie is a famous Mormon, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Thousands have joined the Church due to her example. As a Mormon woman, Marie has made her large family a priority, raising seven children while performing and running her businesses.
In 1991 Osmond founded what would become one of the most successful collectible doll brands. Osmond unveiled her line of dolls on QVC. “While QVC continues to be the doll’s primary source of distribution, Marie has expanded the line into retail stores, Internet sales and direct response.” Osmond also debuted her dolls on The Shopping Channel in Canada. Osmond worked on sculpting and produced several dolls of her own which became best-sellers.
Because she started out and has continued as an avid collector, Osmond knows what makes a doll collectible. People seek something that makes the doll distinctive and creates memories. They also look for quality — “memorable faces, the finest porcelain, creative concepts, high quality wigs, eyes and costumes.” Osmond’s doll collection has garnered numerous award nominations, including “Trendsetter of the Year” and Dolls magazine’s “Awards of Excellence.”
In 2006, Osmond launched an embroidery machine line, a sewing machine line, and embroidery designs through Bernina. She has been featured on the cover of Designs in Machine Embroidery. Osmond also has a line of jewelry called Shine. In addition, as part of the Slimsational Stars, Osmond is currently promoting the Nutrisystem brand of weight loss meals.
Along with actor John Schneider, Osmond co-founded the non-profit organization Children’s Miracle Network in 1983. The CMN is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America.
Olive Marie Osmond was born on October 13, 1959, in Ogden, Utah. Although she never was part of the Osmond family singing groups, she became a solo sensation in her teens. Like her family, she is a dedicated and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church.
